The Fallow Mind

The Fallow Mind

The fallow mind in winter knows, its scope
And wide horizon are made narrow by
The rim of early dusk, descending blinds-
Last summer’s rocket buried under sand.
To soar and spin, to take the hand and whip
A leash of fiery comets through the sky:
To be crier or prophet, John or Isaiah, these
Wait in the mind for the world’s turning phase:
The time she lifts her head from blood-soaked fields,
From one-eyed houses, shattered, gaping towns,
The time she sees her brother’s son, and bears
Her ribs to his remembered healing blaze-
Then will the mind take a new stature on
And children thrive, who late last year were bombed

ELEMENTAL PRAYER

Posted on May 6th, 2009 by sherab : Myna Qui sherab
Lotus
As you may be aware, a serious wildfire is uncontained in the foothills of Santa Barbara, threatening many lives and structures.

This is a great elemental prayer to add to ones daily routine to help contain the fires and other conditions . It may be done with the seven line prayer and Guru Rinpoche mantra to focus on Padmasabhava and  invoke his help in clearing up these dangerous conditions.

21 praises to Tara are also a good as a way to approach the Elemental Goddesses surrounding the guru.

Also It would be lovely to say 21 repetitions of the Medicine Buddha mantra dedicated to all those affected by disease .

ELEMENTAL PRAYER
From Sampa Lhundrupma Prayer
(For any danger connected to the elements)

SA CHHU ME LUNG JUNG WAI BAR CHË KYIY
When obstacles of the elements, earth, water, fire and wind arise,

GYU LÜ NYEN CHING JIK PAI DÜ JUNG TS'HE
if it becomes dangerous for both humans, animals and their dwelling places,

YÏ NYIY T'HE TS'HOM MË PAR SOLWA DEP
pray intensely to Guru Rinpoche without doubt.

ORGYEN JUNG WA ZHI YI LHA MOR CHEY
He is Padmasambhava, surrounded by the four element goddesses,

JUNG WA RANG SAR ZHI WAR T'HE TS'HOM MË
who will definitely pacify all dangers.

ORGYEN PEMA JUNG NAY LA SOL WA DEP
I pray to the Guru, Lotus Born.

SAM PA LHÜN GYIY DRUP PAR JIN GYIY LOB
May you fulfill our wishes spontaneously!

This prayer will definitely make a difference if you can repeat it at least 108 times. I translated this prayer by Tsultrim's request, due to the fire danger in Colorado. -- Bhakha Tulku Rinpoche

From the "Seven Chapter Invocation to Guru Rinpoche," a Northern Terma of Rigdzin Gö Dem.

dream of a black rabbit

My dream returned
like a late crescent moon
riding high over placid waters.
A black rabbit hidden by his own shadow:
still, in the grass at the edge of the road.

My ship came home empty,
a cargo of whispers
tossed in the easy wind
without the weight of apples
and iron to hold it's course.

And this summer storm has summoned
rain lilies from under the dessicated oak,
filled the gutters with new bamboo leaves,
washed the windows of the drunkard's cottage
and driven the old cat
from his post on the wall
at the end of the garden,
to the shelter of a window ledge,
where he watches the grey squalls
sweep across the bay.

He is older than I,  and forgotten his name.
We call him by the sound he makes
when hunger wakes and claws inside.

I have not forgotten what the rabbit told me,
or what I read in "The Book of Dreams and Shadow"
on the dusty shelf of the old botanica.

I still recall the hours full of counting.
the lists of great importance.
Categories and expenses.
The taste of secrets.

How did this become the past?
Why can't I put the sky into all of my poems?
Or tell you what the rabbit hides from?
How have my dreams become,
These scraps of paper in an empty drawer?
